      Na W Mn/SiO 2 catalysts containing different amounts of sodium, tungsten, and manganese were prepared and their active oxygen species for activating methane were investigated using O 2 temperature program desorption (O 2 TPD) and CH 4 pulse reaction(CH 4 PR) techniques. The experimental results indicate that the active oxygen species over Na W Mn/SiO 2 catalysts for activating methane is the mobile surface lattice oxygen (O 2- ) supplied by tungsten and manganese oxides. Sodium can strongly polarize the metal oxygen bonds of the tungsten and manganese oxides and increase the mobility of their surface lattice oxygen. There is a synergic effect of sodium, tungsten, and manganese components to activate methane with the surface lattice oxygen over Na W Mn/SiO 2 catalysts.
